Unveiling of the Hank Aaron Commemorative Jersey

In a pregame ceremony on Tuesday, April 8th, the Atlanta Braves honored "baseball's true home run king", Hank Aaron, and Tabletoppers was there!

Forty years ago, on April 8, 1974, after waiting out three rain delays at the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, Hank Aaron hit his 715th home run over the left field fence to surpass Babe Ruth as the all-time home run leader. Eighty year old, Aaron, recovering from hip surgery, was on hand to express his appreciation and say, “for 23 years, I gave baseball everything that I had.”

There were seven former players on hand for the ceremony, unveiling framed No. 44 jerseys. Al Downing, the former Dodgers pitcher who threw the pitch that Aaron hit that night 40 years ago, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at this year’s opening game. Dignitaries from other Atlanta major sports teams as well as Braves officials and baseball commissioner, Bud Selig, also took part in the ceremony.

Congratulations to Hank Aaron, one of America’s great sportsmen!
